Frequently asked questions

  • What is a swedish massage?

Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing form of massage therapy designed to reduce stress and ease tension. It uses smooth, flowing strokes to improve circulation, calm the nervous system, and release surface-level muscle tightness. This type of massage is especially helpful for those seeking stress relief, relaxation, or support in managing anxiety.

  • What is a deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage offers a more invigorating experience than Swedish massage, targeting the deeper layers of muscles and fascia. Using slower, more focused techniques, it helps release chronic tension and melt away knots. While the pressure is more intense, it should always feel relieving and satisfying, but never painful.

  • What is a sports massage?

Sports massage is designed for those with active lifestyles, offering focused relief for overworked or strained muscles. Similar to deep tissue massage, it uses firm pressure but takes a more targeted approach—addressing the specific areas most affected by activity or repetitive motion.

  • Should I get completely undressed?

Undressing fully can allow a massage therapist to access all areas of the body more directly, without working through sheets or clothing. That said, a skilled therapist can always adapt techniques to work through clothing or draping if preferred. Your comfort is the top priority and if you feel more at ease keeping some or all of your clothes on, you are encouraged to do so.

  • What if my massage therapist isn't using the right amount of pressure?

Massage therapists should always ask about your preferred pressure—whether light, medium, or deep—before beginning the session. Because everyone experiences pressure differently, what feels like medium to one person may feel like deep to another. For this reason, open communication during the massage is essential. A good therapist will regularly check in and adjust the pressure as needed to ensure your comfort and the best possible experience.

  • Am I supposed to tip my massage therapist?

Gratuity is a way to show gratitude, but it is never an obligation. If you feel your massage therapist provided excellent service, a tip of 15–20% is considered standard. However, any amount is always appreciated, and the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your choice.
